Soliciting Donations

I would bet I receive at least 3-4 phones calls a day from someone somewhere wanting me to make a donation to their organization. I hear repeatedly "your donation is a write-off you know". Well write offs only benefit companies who have a high profit, but when the bottom line is not that great one has to stay within budget. I try to support my local areas. Each year I donate to a local girls team, a local boys team, the Horse and Pony 4-H (because my daughter has always been in this club). I sponsor an add regarding talking to your children about drugs and encouraging them to get into sports, etc. with the local WMDH station, and I donate to Anchor families which is kind of like a half-way house for troubled teens or teens from troubled families. I know they have to make these calls to get money raised but what offends me is when I take the time (that most generally I do not have) to listen about their program, and then offer a sincere pass on participation due to the fact that I support my local areas with my budgeted amounts, and I hear from them things like, So I guess you could care less about saving just one child's life out side of your own town, or something like that! Whoever taught this person about pressure sales should have told them don't insult and burn a bridge! I am sure I will remember the next time they call! I answered with sure I care that is why I pray each day for all of those in need. You can't put a price tag on that one you know.
